We recently got am email from this lady who wrote about her entrepreneurial story. It was fascinating (every successful journey is fascinating). So we decided to share it with our readers. She agreed with the condition of anonymity. We too agreed.

Let’s hear it from her

“I stayed in a small town which often had many official meetings and workshops. I enjoyed cooking and liked to try different cuisine myself. My friends say I was a great cook. I don’t know how the idea of starting a “packet lunch” came to my mind.

One day my husband came from office and told me that after two days he had an office meeting where some distinguished guest from the ministry would visit. His said at least 200 people will attend the meeting. Somehow the idea came to my mind and I told him “How about if I take the lunch order?” He was surprised and after a pause asked me “You think you will be able to do it?” “Off course, why not?” – I replied.

So I met the authorities and convinced them that I would be able to handle the lunch order for 200 people. They gave me the order.  Next day before the D-day, I went shopping after making a detailed list of the items that I need. I got every ingredient needed for the order and kept everything ready. I had the utensils to cook everything.

In the morning of the D-day, I prepared everything and packed it in the packets which I made during the previous night. After packing is done, I called up the office for picking up the packets. A car came and picked up all the 200 packets. The delivery was well ahead of time.

This was my first business and I made a sale of Rs. 6000 (when my expenses where just Rs. 1000). I got appreciation from both the officials and people who enjoyed the lunch.”

Not a big profit (Rs. 5000) but if you calculate that is a 500% profit (Rs. 5000 profit on Rs. 1000 spent). The most important thing that she started a home business of her own with the abilities and skills she had. The starting is the main thing. After this initial success, she started her own small catering and food supply business in her small town. When later her businesses grew to a huge one and she could not handle it alone anymore, she hired two people to help her with it. That was just the beginning and she went ahead building a business.

It’s really fascinating how a housewife and a mom, found out time and converted her skills to a home-based business which is not only profitable but also self satisfying.
