Today, home offices do not mean a corner of your house, a part of the basement or a part of a small closet. As more and more people are working from home and starting home businesses, the home office has become a very important part of the work and the home.

Generally, in an average home office will find a computer, a copier, a telephone, fax machine, Internet connection, chair, desk and other related stuffs. But this scenario is changing quite fast and if you leg behind, and you may soon become a feel like a dumb.

Just focusing on a few basic things you can set up your home office for providing you the maximum output.

Identify the Space for Your Home Office

In most possibility, the space for your home office is limited. So you have fewer choices. But still, with some modifications you can create better space for you. For example, if you want to use a closet as your workspace, then simply remove the clothes pole and install electrical connections to make it your new workspace.

If you spend a lot of time in your home office, then you will have to identify space that is in frequently and inadequately used. Look for space in your guest room or dining area. If you want a closed workspace behind doors, then use an armoire for papers, a computer and printer.  When you find out more space you can extend your workspace to a larger area.

Your chair should be very comfortable for you as most of the time you’ll be sitting there. Get a chair with the right height and comfort. If you like to keep your feet up, then get a footstool. I prefer handles in my chair which support my elbows and save me from carpel tunnel.  Keep in mind ergonomics while buying a chair.

It is always better to use a slide-out keyboard holder which will hold your computer keyboard is the right height for easy and comfortable use. Your mouse should be placed in an area which is easily accessible.

c. Light the Way and Save Your Eyes

Lighting is extremely important in your home office. Always have proper lighting in your home office, if you want to avoid any eye problems. Installing lighting over your reading area, computer will reduce eye strain. Make sure to avoid any reflection off the computer monitor.

Make sure that you have a private and quiet home office. If clients come to visit you and wait for an appointment, provide them with comfortable sitting arrangement, light, interesting literature and a drinking water facility.

Make your office fun

Even though you in business, you do not have to be serious all the time. Your home office should be fun to walk in and work. You can always provide a personal touch to your home office. A colorful home office looks better and livelier. Decorate your office with color everywhere; in your furniture, curtains, computers, baskets and other elements.
